About this Course

A 2-day course that covers the development of Graphic Design over time, including its purpose and application, process, elements and principles, allowing the student to work through exercises of brainstorming, logo concepts and poster design and artwork. It also covers in very basic format the essentials of the three main Adobe design software packages of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.



Audience


This course is ideal for those who want an introductory course to enable them to put out information practically within a world of planning, client needs, budgets and materials in an attractive and easily understandable way. It is also ideal for those who want a teaser look at the three main graphics packages to help them choose which one would work best for them, before committing to full two-day specific software courses.

Prerequisites

Attendees should be familiar and competent with using the Windows system. A strong desire to create is encouraged and they are also encouraged to bring in a few examples of the type of work they will be creating.

At Course Completion

The course objective is that you understand the essentials of Graphic Design and how to create and lay out aesthetically pleasing, practical and informative documents using the principles and elements of Graphic Design as well as the appropriate Adobe software.

  • Elements and Principles of Graphic Design
  • Basics of Typography
  • Overview of the three main print-based applications of the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
  • what they are used for and how they work together
  • Photoshop – introduction to basic image colour adjustment and manipulation
  • Illustrator – introduction to basic vector drawing
  • InDesign – introduction to basic document setup.
